ASEM Summits
ASEM 1: Bangkok, March 1996 The inaugural ASEM Summit proposed the creation of a new partnership between Asia and Europe by means of an enhanced political dialogue, reinforced economic co-operation, as well as co-operation in other areas (social, cultural and intellectual).
ASEM 2: London, April 1998 The second ASEM Summit confirmed and enhanced the progress made over the two preceding years, and discussed in particular the issues arising from the financial crisis in Asia.
ASEM 3: Seoul, October 2000 The third ASEM Summit addressed the future directions of the ASEM process into the first decade of the new century.
ASEM 4: Copenhagen, September 2002 The fourth ASEM focused on a few key issues, increased the informality of exchanges and streamlined the ASEM process. It also set to establish a working relationship between Asian and European leaders which is neither dominated by economic euphoria nor crisis driven pessimism.
