THE MISSION

The Mission of the Republic of Indonesia to the European Communities (PRIME) was established in 1990 to accommodate the growing needs for nurturing expanding relations between Indonesia and its European counterpart. It was established as a concrete and tangible institutional response to the historic changes in Europe due to, inter alia, the fall of the East-West divide, the onset of the European Single Market, and the emergence of wider and deeper goals for European integration. Prior to the Mission's existence, the role of advancing Indonesia's links with the EEC was performed by the Embassy to Belgium.

Since its inception, the Mission has deployed large range of human and administrative resources and ranked among the largest Indonesian overseas establishments, reflecting the emphasis the government gives on its multidimensional relations with the EC. Thirteen years onwards, today, the need for a pro-active Indonesian institutional response to challenges in Europe has grown much bigger. Much has changed in the political and economic landscapes of both the European Union and Indonesia that always need suitable response.

As a government representative to the EC in Brussels, the objective of the Mission is to enhance links and to facilitate closer relations between between Indonesia and the EU in all areas of common interest including trade, investment and development cooperation. The Mission also seeks to enhance Indonesia-EU political dialogue to further mutual understanding, bridge differences of opinion and resolve potential disputes amicably. In its operational works, the Mission is divided into several divisions dealing with general and particular issues of common interest, including political, economic, trade, agriculture and customs.
